They write and create stories for us.
They build worlds which we can lose ourselves in. (I have spent many an hour in Harry Potter land).
They allow us to experience emotions: fear and loss, in a safe place.
Sometimes they give us a cleansing cry.
Sometimes they give us laughter.
They encourage us to wonder.
They give us lines and moments to remember.
They give us their time.
Last week author Paul Acampora shared his time with us - for 4 days!
Last night, Mrs. K. and Mrs. Doyle had an opportunity to meet Marie Lu. (Check the pictures on twitter!)
These events got me thinking about both the gifts these authors (and many others) give to us and about our response to these gifts.
If you had a chance, what would you say to an author who wrote a book you loved?
What would you say to an author who encouraged you to pick up the pen and write?
What would you say to an author who gave you a character, an experience, that helped you understand your life and your place in this world?
If you could, how would you say thank-you?
