Why is it that when we are frustrated we begin to clench and clutch?
My mother used to tell me to turn it into something productive. Umm, yeah. First let me untangle my fingers.
There now, that's better.
So how do we get rid of frustration?
Step 1: Rant.
A good strong rant can be a healthy thing. It releases us. Even as an adult I feel better after stomping my feet a few times. Taking action is liberating. (Yes - that was a huge life lesson.) Here it is again, in case you missed it.
Taking action is liberating.
It's the standing still that in inhibits and frustrates us.
After the rant then you can...
Step 2: Breathe.
Basic science. Breathing allows oxygen to get to the brain. Need I say more?
So, how about that productive thing?
A good strong run or a long walk will put you right back where you need to be.
"What?" you say. "I thought this was all about writing."
Yes. It is.
Your body needs to be physically healthy, too. Holding onto frustration is not healthy. It messes with your mind, heart, and a whole bunch of other systems your science teacher can explain to you. And yes, this is both literal and figurative.
Your assignment this week is to take care of yourself. Notice how you feel - and deal with those feelings. The good and the bad.
I guarantee you your writing will thank-you. If your head is in the right place your writing will there be too.
