Already the winter of 2014 has sent us all kinds of weather, new words, and possible writing topics. Polar vortex is a phrase we are not likely to forget soon. (Pssst, if it's not in your notebook it should be!)
This week the unthinkable happened in Atlanta. Due to the weather some students had to stay overnight at school - with their teachers!
No, this is not a scene out of the book Trapped. This is real life.
And, it got me thinking...
Try mapping this one out a bit before you write. In Atlanta, some buses were able to leave - and then got stuck. Others never got to the school.
If it were your school, who would stay in the school? Which students? Which teachers?
What would you all do in the school overnight? Would the teachers have you attend classes? Would there be open gym?
What if the power shut off? (That means heat, too. There are no wood stoves in our school!)
Let your imagination run wild.
